metalsongoftheday:

Wednesday, August 1: Delain, “Mother Machine”

“Mother Machine” opened We
Are the Others
with a guitar and drum barrage that was far more intense
than most symphonic metal, but soon returned to more familiar territory with
its mid-paced verses and Charlotte
Wessels’ elastic and melodic vocals.  Of
course, there was plenty of space for Wessels to command the spotlight, though
Martin Westerholt’s keyboards were far less obtrusive than was usually the case
for this sort of sound.  What made
“Mother Machine” stand out was its committed riffing and drumming, for even if
the guitars weren’t as prominent in the mix after those opening moments, their
power was apparent throughout most of the song, and with Wessels on board, the
tune offered a nice counterpart to Westerholt’s former band Within
Temptation.  It was well-executed and perfectly
crafted, presenting the more metallic aspects of Delain’s sound to delightful
effect.
